Sqéwqel Development Corporation (SqDC), the economic arm of Seabird Island First Nation, is hosting the Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative (YEI) once again this July! This time, the event will be better than ever as SqDC welcomes the Bears’ Lair Dream Camp to Seabird Island!

The Bears’ Lair Dream Camp is an event that gives Indigenous youth aged 12-22 hands-on experience with entrepreneurial training. The YEI has always been about giving our youth skills that they can carry with them into an independent future. Bears’ Lair’s goal of boosting confidence and self-reliance through entrepreneurial education aligns with that vision.

The Bears’ Lair Dream Camp is a four-day event. The first three days are dedicated to developing a business idea, and the fourth is for presenting it.

Day 1, Friday evening

• Participants are welcomed to the event and enjoy dinner.
• Teams are formed with mentors, and the first challenge begins.

Day 2 & 3, Saturday and Sunday daytime

• The teams develop their business, and assign roles.
• Marketing strategies and products are developed.
• The teams participate in three more challenges!

Day 4, Monday evening

• The community is invited to join a final dinner.
• The teams pitch their businesses to the judges.
• The winner is announced, and all teams get their prizes.

The event runs from July 18-21 at the Seabird Island Gymnasium. Our youth will gain knowledge from skilled indigenous mentors, and experience working with their teams.
